The smile of the child
"THE SMILE OF THE CHILD" is a non-profit voluntary Organisation. It is based on sentiment and emotions but it goes beyond that and turns everything it represents into actions. As its main objective, the Organisation deals with the daily problems children encounter.
The Organisation?s main concern is defending children's rights, not just on paper but in practice as well, providing services to children on a 24-hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year-basis, working for their physical, mental, and psychological stability.
?The Smile of the Child? cooperates closely with state authorities (Police, the General Attorney?s Office, hospitals etc.) but also with all responsible individuals wishing to contribute to alleviating issues affecting children.
As a voluntary Organisation, ?The Smile of the Child? supports all relevant institutions so as to promote their efficiency in handling children?s issues.The voice, coming from a child?s heart, deeply touched us, motivated us and reached everyone?s conscience, showing us the path we have to follow. Our mission is hard and, quite often, fraught with adversity. The issues children face are numerous. The number of children in need of a roof over their heads, a hug and a "smile" constantly increases. We work hard to put a "smile" on every child?s face and worry over being able to maintain that ability. However, we always push harder, keeping in mind that we have no right to allow a child to be deprived of his/her rights, we have no right to turn our backs to a child in need.
The volunteer organization for children, "The Smile of the Child", has made its presence notable during the past 15+1 years by offering love and shelter to children but also by the support it has drawn from everyday people that believed in the same values and objectives and supported the Organization both morally and materially. In this huge effort our most valuable assets are our volunteers. People that help us meet the daily needs; people helping us put a smile on each of our children by selflessly and substantially offering their time and themselves to make this possible.
Our volunteers are equally important as our employees, at times even occupying positions and basic needs, which could only be carried out by specialized personnel. Pending on the type of various needs arising each time and based, of course, on their availability and desire we mobilize our volunteers to complete the tasks.
Aside of the ad-hoc needs and emergencies rising at times, which are dealt by our volunteers, there are also other activities where every individual can participate, volunteering either on a steady basis or whenever they are available.
From the statistics, I would like to underline that in 2012, through the actions, 41.897 children and their families all over Greece were supported! In 2011 the corresponding number was 23.202 children. This increase of 80,5% is huge!
